Creating a Life List
Thanks to the popular movie Bucket List many people created their list of things to do, places to see and dreams to accomplish before they die. I started mine while Dave was sick and it became very important to me after he passed away. The problem with a Bucket List is that it feels like everything has to be so big and it is either a pass or fail. You either accomplish your goal or you don't. You complete something 100% of the way you said you would, or you fail. My bucket list would require me winning the lottery in order to accomplish everything on the list and most things were to big to even get started in small steps. A bucket list can feel like your are working on the end of your life instead of creating a lifetime of experiences.
I took a class from gomighty.com and it helped me to understand why a Life List was a better way to make goals and complete things during your lifetime, I used my notes from this class to write this blog. The goals can be ever changing, growing and deleted if they don't seem appropriate anymore. A Life List is all about the journey and the experience and less about completing the goal exactly the way you expect it to go. You need to be OK with the fact that when you start a goal it may not take you where you really want to go, it may take you down completly unexpected pathways. Give yourself permission to alter the goal as you go along by not holding yourself to a specific plan of action, let the journey carry you.
Life is full of things we HAVE to do and we need to learn to focus on what we intuitively should be doing. If you are on the right pathway fate will present new opportunities and even more exciting adventures.
You need to start your Life List by being specific, being grand and true to yourself. Do not feel guilty for focusing time on yourself because it gives you energy that you can focus on others. Don't let fear of success slow you down, if you have someone telling you you can't accomplish something, change them out for a champion who knows that you can.
If you feel stuck and don't know where to start writing your list, begin to explore your emotions and create goals that will help you feel the emotions you are craving; happiness, peace, success, pride, memories, etc. What you are thinking about is what you are becoming. Turn your attentions first and your feet will follow.
Your words determine your happiness. We use words to define and manipulate reality. By recording our intentions we have a place to start to envision our future. Action is transformative, your words have force because they trigger actions in yourself and others.
Placing a check mark next to something you have completed doesn't make you happy, the experience working up to it makes you happy or feeling accomplished. Be rigid only if you want to snap, going with the flow will make everything so much more fun. Start your life list today, you can use gomighty.com to get started. I look forward to sharing my Life List journeys with you and would love to hear about yours!
